Our undergraduate student, Shu-Ching Yang, won the SIRE-REU5 award.

SIRE-REU: Conversion of Monosaccharides and Polysaccharides to Furan-Based Precursors for Hydrocarbon Fuels

This project team will study the process of converting lignocellulose to drop-in biofuels in the PI’s lab.  The proposed research for the REU student involves elucidating the reaction mechanisms of biomass cellulose and hemicellulose during the Hydrolysis-Dehydration Aldol Condensation (HDA) process using monosaccharides and polysaccharides as model compounds.

Professor Pan will be recognized at the International Student Graduation Celebration on Friday, April 25 for his outstanding contributions to the UW-Madison international student community.This award is for a faculty member who has gone beyond the call of duty to provide assistance and support to international students on the UW-Madison campus.

The Celebration will take place in the Sonata and Concerto Rooms, Gordon Dining and Event Center. The awards portion of the Celebration will begin at 5pm and will be followed by a reception.

Congratulation professor Pan!

Dr. Li Shuai who graduated in August 2012, won first place (Gold Medal) of IAWS (International Academy of Wood Science) Outstanding PhD Thesis Research Award. He was invited to present his research at the annual meeting of IAWS in Sopron/Vienna, Hungary/Austria (September 15-18, 2014). He will be awarded the Gold Medal and a certificate at the meeting. IAWS will provide $1,000 and support his attendance of the meeting.

Shuting Zhang will be recognized at the International Student Graduation Celebration on Friday, April 25 for her academic achievement. The celebration will take place in the Sonata and Concerto Rooms, Gordon Dining and Event Center at 5 PM.
